Cyclist Claims £60,000 After Collision
A Cheshire cyclist has been awarded £60,000 in compensation after being hit by a negligent driver who failed to spot a red light.
The 35-year-old suffered a severe fracture to his leg and was forced to take a significant break from work after the driver failed to stop in front of a pedestrian crossing.
Over three million cyclists now parade around Britain’s roads and the number of accidents involving bikes has significantly increased in the past few years. In 2007, there was a reported 16,000 accidents in which cyclists were either killed or sustained injury as a result of collisions and falls.
The Cheshire cyclist was yet another statistic of the 75% of cycling accidents that happen near, or on, a road junction and the accident was so severe that the cyclist’s break from work was extended again and again until he was finally made redundant.
"Like the accident involving our client from Cheshire, nearly three quarters of accidents happen at, or near, a road junction, with T-junctions being the most commonly involved,” said the victim’s solicitor.
“The person in the car paid no attention to the red light and it was clear they were at fault."
With more than 90% of cycling accidents occurring in urban areas such as this, cyclists are being urged to stay safe and seek legal advice if the actions of others cause serious injuries.
