Fatal accident at work - British Sugar boiler explosion

Following the Inquest into the death in March 2003 of the late Mr Robert Howe, this statement is made by Dawn Humphries, Specialist Accident Solicitor for Lanyon Bowdler acting on behalf of Mrs Christine Howe, her daughter Ms Kristy Howe and their family. Whilst Mrs Howe was too distressed to attend the hearing they have all welcomed the narrative verdict setting out in detail the catalogue of errors leading to this tragic death.

The family feel that had there been more care and attention to prevent the failings leading up to this tragic incident, Mr Robert Howe, a British Sugar worker, would not have lost his life.

The whole family have been devastated by the events surrounding Robert’s death and would like to emphasise that it is impossible for them to put their feelings into words. Their grief remains with them every day.

The past 5 years have been very long and distressing for the family, however, they would particularly like to express their thanks to the legal team; Dawn Humphries, Louise Fenner and Barrister Richard Gregory, as well as to the Jury, Coroner and those involved in the thorough investigations.
