Football Transmission 'kicks' Pub Landlords into Court
Two pub licensees have been tried and convicted of breaching copyright laws and fined for their efforts.
The individuals concerned were involved in a large scale trial among other licensees for showing foreign satellite football on their premises. Michael Quigley and William Miller are the first cases to be heard and others are due over the coming months. The licensees are among 26 others from all over the country who are facing trial at Chester Magistrates court.
Quigley, of the Red Lion, in Hillmorton, Rugby, and Miller of the Grand Junction in Ashton-on-Ribble appeared before Magistrates and were fined £500 and £300 respectively. Both were ordered to pay costs of over £1500.
Their behaviour was found to have been in breach of The Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988, after they transmitted the programmes to members of the public unlawfully.
