George Cross for Staff Sergeant Hughes
Following the announcement that local soldier Staff Sergeant Kim Hughes is to receive the George Cross for his outstandingly selfless act of bravery in Afghanistan, local law firm Lanyon Bowdler is immensely proud to add its own congratulations at a more personal level, as Staff Sergeant Hughes’ mother, Mrs Fran Trask, is employed by the firm as a Legal Secretary based at the Telford offices.
Mrs Trask, who is secretary to John Merry, head of the employment department, says “Kim exemplifies the very best qualities that our country could seek in our troops. He does his job of High Threat Bomb Disposal Operator with total skill and dedication, putting the protection of his colleagues above any issues of his own personal safety. This prestigious award in recognition of his courage and bravery is truly well deserved. My feelings of pride for my son are overwhelming”.
Staff Sergeant Hughes, who serves with the Royal Logistics Corps, is to receive the George Cross later this year for his extraordinarily courageous act in defusing three bombs manually whilst trying to save the lives of five of his injured colleagues.
Speaking on behalf of the firm, senior partner, Peter Flint said “this is a great achievement. Staff Sergeant Hughes has my deepest admiration”.
