Ruth Finney Conquers the Three Peaks

Ruth Finney, solicitor in our commercial & corporate law team is always up for a challenge and so when her two sisters suggested to her and her fearless fiancé that they attempt to complete the Three Peaks Challenge on 19 July, she immediately said yes. They would be raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support by climbing the three highest mountain peaks in the UK, (Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis) in 24 hours and that included driving between each peak! It all sounded quite daunting and a demanding challenge even for the physically fit.

Of course there was a very big reason for them putting themselves through such an enduring physical feat. Ruth and her sisters lost their cousin, Sarah Finney, on Christmas day 2006, aged 27. Sarah had a long battle with cancer, which she fought bravely. Her wish was to be able to spend Christmas at home with her family and thanks to Macmillan’s help and support, she was able to do this.

So the big day finally came round, and the team found themselves standing at the foot of Ben Nevis in Scotland, where they started their ascent at 6.55am. Over the following 23 hours and 31 minutes they also scaled the heights of Scafell Pike in Cumbria and Snowdon in Wales where they finished their descent at 6.26am on Monday 20 July.

To find out a bit more about those long, tough hours, take a look at the website (details below), where you can see a few pictures (some will make you feel pretty cold!) and you may even feel like donating a small sum of money to the charity.

The final words go to Ruth who says “on behalf of my sisters and fiancé, I just want to say an enormous thank you to all those who have supported us and donated to Macmillan. We have already exceeded our target, we are all absolutely delighted.”
