Show Garden Wins Gold at Shrewsbury Flower Show
Lanyon Bowdler has once again come up trumps! Following the tremendous success at last years Shrewsbury Flower Show, the firm again sponsored a Show Garden – this time for Severndale Specialist School. Judging took place on Thursday, prior to the Show opening to the public on Friday 12 August. There was stiff competition, but the firm were delighted to be awarded one of Shropshire Horticultural Society’s Gold Medals.
The garden, designed by award winning garden designer Mike Russell, showcased projects which had involved the students from Severndale Specialist School, such as a hand crafted copper Rock Blenny fish, wind chimes and copper tiles – many engraved with the children’s names or initials.
The garden captured a retro beachy theme with a colourful abundance of seaside plants, all contained within recycled sea worn timbers rescued from the beach at Borth.
The garden was created to support Severndale Specialist School which is located on the Monkmoor Campus in Shrewsbury. Much of the garden will be recreated at the school – which will also include a vibrant ‘marine like’ synthetic flooring. Once at the school the students will be able to enjoy the textures, sounds and colours.
Managing partner David Battisby said “Once again this has been a tremendous project and one that has involved many people. I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of local suppliers and craftspeople – many having given up much of their free time to work on this project.”
A blog http://severndalespecialistschoolgarden.wordpress.com/, has been written to share the experience and to thank all those involved.
