Silver Green Achievers
A Shropshire firm of solicitors has become the latest business prepared to demonstrate its green credentials to suppliers and customers, seeking such organisations.
Lanyon Bowdler solicitors has attained the Green Achiever silver accolade. Developed by environmental consultancy E4 environment, a business or organisation interested in the Green Achiever scheme will start by registering free at www.greenachiever.co.uk, complete a short questionnaire to outline its responsibilities and receive a listing in the Green Achiever online directory. The first level is self-assessment, which includes a declaration of environmental commitment. Silver is the next and demonstrates the positive action taken in the way it cares for the environment. The highest level, gold, is attained following an extensive environmental audit.
Amanda Jones is the business development and marketing manager at Lanyon Bowdler solicitors. Having relocated its south Shropshire office to Ludlow Eco Business Park in 2008, she believes the firm is working hard towards minimising its environmental impact. “We have always demonstrated a basic environmental awareness, for example, recycling paper and toner cartridges. However, we now consider other areas of the business, such as the disposal of old IT equipment. Green Achiever has also brought our staff together in a shared purpose, will save us money in reduced energy costs and be of benefit when we tender for contracts. It is a very positive step forward for Lanyon Bowdler, with realistic, sustainable targets set by us that our customers and suppliers can understand.”
Mandy Stoker, director at E4environment, said: “Everyone’s talking about the government’s environmental policies and how our behaviour and neglect is leading to changes in the climate. The public is becoming increasingly vocal about what they expect from retailers and manufacturers, for example, less packaging and more recyclable products and packaging, as well as services and products that are environmentally friendly. Over 40 businesses a month now register with Green Achiever from a range of sectors and varying sizes including retail, IT, manufacturing and professional services sole traders, SMEs and large corporations.”
