Profile / Experience

Profile / Experience

Caroline has built up a wealth of experience in all areas of family law and is an accredited specialist member of Resolution in 2007, for financial relief on divorce and domestic abuse.

The latter is a particular area of interest for Caroline who previously sat for 12 years on the North Shropshire Domestic Violence Forum serving as Secretary then Treasurer. She also maintains strong links with the police, Women’s Aid and other key workers in the field and is acutely aware that domestic abuse can be experienced by both women and men in any form of intimate relationship. She works creatively to find assistance that may not always have to involve Court.

Caroline is also very interested in Children Act applications to remove a child from the jurisdiction and has enjoyed much success in this area. Having spent much of her childhood abroad, Caroline has first-hand positive experience of a move overseas and considers she is very insightful and aware of the issues to be explored form the child’s perspective in order to assist the parents’ respective positions.

Caroline has dealt with the full range of financial orders upon divorce, including assets outside the jurisdiction.

She has also developed expertise in preparing “freedom to marry” affidavits for couples seeking to marry abroad.

Caroline obtained an Honours degree in Norwegian & French with Scandinavian Literature (with a dabble in Neurolinguistics) at UEA, Norwich in 1995.

After graduating she travelled to Norway with the assistance of a European Union scholarship and gained the equivalent of a First Class postgraduate qualification in Norwegian Public & Administrative Law at the University of Bergen.

She returned to the UK and worked for a year in the legal department of a large aggregates company before heading off to the rugged moors of the Pennines to study the CPE law conversion course and LPC.

From West Yorkshire her nomadic spirit took her to a training contract with Shoosmiths in their Northampton then Banbury offices where Caroline qualified as a solicitor in 2001, remaining with them in their family law department for two more years.

A yearning back to her own family roots and bigger hills than she could find in Oxfordshire brought Caroline back west in 2003, where she joined Longueville Gittins in Oswestry (who merged with Lanyon Bowdler in 2010) becoming an associate in 2014.

Caroline is a Recommended Lawyer in the 2024 edition of The Legal 500 and noted as a key lawyer.

Testimonial from 2024 edition of The Legal 500:

‘Caroline Yorke is fantastic and has a great instinct‘.

Caroline also enjoys covering family work in our Conwy office and can often be found photographing the castle form every conceivable angle!

In her spare time Caroline can generally be found in the outdoors. She is a regular hillwalker and climber (her enthusiasm for the latter perhaps compensating for technique…) and in the past has been an active member of SARDA Wales, involved in the training of search dogs.

Caroline is also a keen paddle-boarder and practices yoga – often at the same time! Whilst waiting for her outdoor kit to dry, she loves to knit in front of a good Netflix choice and maintains that there is no such thing as ‘buying too much wool”.

She is a qualified Aromatherapist and Reiki Master Teacher. In the time left after that she is an enthusiastic world traveller, reader, cook and musician (performing and listening).
