Criminal Injury Compensation Claims

Lanyon Bowdler’s Personal Injury Team have years of experience when it comes to obtaining compensation for victims of criminal offences and are the Number 1 choice when it comes to professional yet friendly advice, so call us free on 0800 954 9935.

The risk of becoming a victim of any crime has fallen steadily over recent years, but although violent crime has fallen by 41% since its peak in 1995 (Crime in England and Wales 2007/08), when it does occur, it is traumatic and distressing. With our expert knowledge we can help you recover from your injuries and obtain compensation for your losses.

You don’t have to worry if the perpetrator has not been found; because we can still help you recover your losses through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) – the organisation responsible for administering the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme and who make awards ranging from £1,000 to £500,000.

The Scheme was set up as an expression of public sympathy and support for innocent victims who have suffered injury as a result of a crime of violence. The injury may be a physical one or indeed a mental injury. It is important that if you have been a victim of a crime that you to report to it to the Police and co-operate with them in getting the offender to justice.

We can provide specialised assistance in helping you to complete your application to the CICA and to correspond with them on your behalf so that your claim is dealt with quickly. Often the CICA's initial decision needs reviewing, something that our specialist knowledge can assist with, to ensure that you get the correct decision and the correct amount of compensation.

You do not meet anyone from the CICA, so it is important the form is completed fully, with the relevant information, in relation to the injuries and losses you have suffered, in order for the CICA to decide if you are a victim of a crime of violence.  There are Guidelines which have to be followed with respect to when compensation can be refused or rejected. These Guidelines often require specialist input from someone who has had experience in dealing with the Authority. If you are not sure whether you would qualify, then feel free to call one of our Advisers who will be happy to assist.
