We have previously had many nominations for the LawCareers.Net's Training and Recruitment Awards for either "Best Recruiter - Small Firm", or "Best Trainer - Small Firm". As well as this year and last, we won awards in 2004 and 2009. We are delighted to receive this recognition of the standard of our trainee solicitor training programme.

It is the trainee solicitors who nominate us for these awards, and the following are quotes from a couple of previous submissions:

“I cannot fault the experience that I have had. I have seen an increase in responsibilities, coupled with as much support as I need; every single staff member is approachable and willing to help. I have been given the opportunity to express how I would like my training contract to be shaped by having a choice of seats. I feel privileged to be able to say that I have trained with this firm.”

“I can’t speak highly enough of the client interaction afforded to trainees at the firm. From almost my first week, I was meeting clients and being exposed to real life legal issues. This has given my fellow trainees and me a practical, human approach to solving legal issues that you just can’t get sitting at a computer all day.”

Recruitment

Lanyon Bowdler take on four trainees each year, so with training contracts usually being for two years we generally have at least eight trainees with us at any one time.

Trainees usually spend six months in each "seat", so they gain experience in four areas of work.

Contracts Commencing September 2019 & 2020

Applications for 2019 are now closed.

We are currently accepting applications for 2020, please ensure your application is submitted by the end of December 2018.

Current Trainees

We were delighted to take on three new trainees in September 2017 and they have settled in well. This means we currently have eight trainee solicitiors showing our commitment to them and how we consider our trainees to be the future of the firm.

The trainees who joined the firm in September are featured in the photograph below: Myfanwy Murray, Lanyon Bowdler partner Colin Spanner, Catherine Field and Gemma Williams.

Life as a Trainee at Lanyon Bowdler

Not only do we offer our trainees support, guidance and valuable experience in the technical aspects of their work, we encourage them to be part of the firm as a whole. They have opportunities to attend careers fairs, where they can talk to students about how to work towards a future in the law, there are also chances to attend events and seminars where they can develop their business development skills.
