Work Experience Podcasts

You can listen to our podcast here, in which two of our solicitors talk through the steps to getting a work experience placement at the firm, how applicants can apply and they offer some top tips as to how to actually get the work experience you deserve at Lanyon Bowdler.

In 2023 students from Idsall School came to our Shrewsbury office on a ‘work experience safari day’, we were recording podcasts that day and so we invited them to take part in an episode of their own. You can listen to them talking about their experience at Lanyon Bowdler and what they learnt during their day with us via this link.

I enjoyed my work experience at Lanyon Bowdler so much I came back and joined the Clinical Negligence Department.

Work Experience Interview Tips

Try to stay relaxed

Our interviews are informal and designed to give us a chance to get to know each other.

We know you might be nervous and that’s OK!

The interview isn’t there to catch you out or put you on the spot. We know interviews can be daunting and we’ve all been there, so we know exactly how you feel.

Do your best to relax and remember it’s your opportunity to get to know us too!

Be prepared to talk about yourself

We like to hear about you. If you have something interesting on your CV, we will definitely ask about it – we love hearing about your hobbies and interests as well as what you’re studying.

You are the absolute best authority on you, so this is a real time to shine and enjoy telling us about yourself.

Make a note of any questions you have

You will always have the opportunity to ask questions, and there is no such thing as a silly question. It is easy to forget what you wanted to ask in the moment though, so a note of a few key things you want to know can be really helpful to have available.

I have worked as a solicitor at Lanyon Bowdler for over 30 years and have particularly enjoyed building up my practice and experience in contentious probate work during a large part of that period. The quality and range of work has always been very good and kept me interested.

Claire Vale
Contentious Probate

I have been supported by Lanyon Bowdler throughout my career. Starting as a legal support assistant in 2016, undertaking my LPC part time, and then through my training contract. I am now recognised as an associate solicitor. It has been a supportive and friendly place to work.

Staci Robinson

As an employee, my experience of the working environment is that it is supportive in all ways, from career development to work/life balance.
