Work Experience at Lanyon Bowdler.

As we come to the end of another cycle of work experience applications, and work experience placements for 2024 begin, I am aware students across the local area will already be thinking about next year and their legal work experience placements.

We have a really successful work experience programme, and we love to meet the students each year. As a matter of course, the CV and cover letter for any applicant for work experience will also be supplied to partners in the firm where there might be a suitable vacancy for them for work. We receive a huge number of applications from really talented candidates, and we look forward to watching them flourish at Lanyon Bowdler in their work experience and beyond.

So what’s the secret? What makes a good work experience application?

The Academics

There’s no denying academics are important in law. They aren’t the be all and end all, but it’s good to get an idea of where applicants are, whether that’s GCSEs, A levels, degrees, or even post graduate study or beyond. You don’t have to have studied law at any level, or be set on what area of law you are most interested in, but it is always good to see the subjects you are studying, and how those relate to your desire to go into law. Is there anything about them that made you want to be a solicitor specifically? If not, what made you decide this was the career for you?

The Local Link

We are proud to be intrinsically linked with the communities in which we work. We understand you might not live locally to any of our offices if you are away at university, but it’s great to see the local links of our candidates.

If you aren’t currently locally linked, explain to us what brought you to us! Are you an aspiring Conwy resident? Perhaps you have family in Telford, or maybe you grew up in Oswestry? We love to see our candidates being as passionate about our local area as we are.

The Lanyon Bowdler Link

We know there are other local law firms (although we like to think we’re excellent!). What brought you to Lanyon Bowdler specifically? Have you been keeping up with our podcast or our blogs? Maybe you’ve heard us on the radio or seen us in the news or on social media – some candidates have even spotted some of our key figures at careers fairs, activities in the community, or on television. We care about delivering the very best legal advice to our clients, delivered locally, by real people – maybe you have the same ethos, or maybe our CAPES values speak most to you. Whatever it is, we would love to hear it!

Be you!

The most important thing you can do is be yourself. We are real people, and we are proud of the fact we are one team. We want to be able to see where you fit in our team, and what you add to the mix – we want to get to know you!

With all of the above said, we wish all our 2025 applicants (and they are coming in already!) the very best of luck, and we look forward to reading your applications!

Our awards and accolades.
