Frida Kahlo “Everything Can Have Beauty, Even the Worst Horror”.

Earlier this year, I travelled to Mexico and during our stay in Mexico City visited Frida Kahlo’s house. Frida Kahlo famously once said “Everything can have beauty, even the worst horror”.

Frida Kahlo was a Mexican artist. From a young age, Frida showed an interest in becoming an artist in the future. Frida was disabled by polio as a child and shortly after starting university to study for a medical degree, Frida was injured in a bus accident leading to lifelong pain and medical problems.

During a three month confinement to her bed, Frida’s mother provided her with a specially-made easel that could be attached to the ceiling above her bed, a mirror so that she could see herself and her father leant her some oil paints and she began to paint, especially self- portraits. Frida went onto to produce the first piece of 20th century art produced by a Mexican artist bought by the Louvre in 1939 (‘The Frame’).

Here at Lanyon Bowdler Solicitors, our Personal Injury Team work alongside clients’ multidisciplinary treatment teams to work with them focussing on what they can do rather than what they can’t do, whether that be finding new ways of doing activities that they partook in prior to the accident, or taking up new hobbies in place of previous ones. This ensures clients continue to live a fulfilling life with opportunities, so that they can have the best quality of life as possible following their accident.
In recent years, there has been a lot of development in prosthetics technology. For example, there are prosthetics for running, skiing, snowboarding, tennis, basketball, volleyball, cycling, swimming, climbing, horse riding, golf, athletics and many more.

Whilst the NHS do provide prosthetics to patients, those that they provide tend to not endorse the latest technology and there is a more limited variety available. Depending on the circumstances of cases, funding for private prosthetic input can be included in the client’s compensation.

If you have any personal injury or other legal matters that you would like to discuss, please get in touch.
