The staff at Lanyon Bowdler raise money each year for two small local charities and this year we are delighted to be supporting Severn Valley Rescue and Little Stars.
Severn Valley Rescue is an animal rescue charity based in Bridgnorth, they care for donkeys, dogs, cats and other animals - many of them with special needs, injuries or disabilities. They are a small charity run entirely by volunteers; every donation goes directly to the animals’ care (they don’t pay staff). This winter they have been severely hit by the very wet weather conditions we have experienced which has caused even more financial pressure for them.
Little Stars operate in Shrewsbury and their sole purpose is to help families in need within Shropshire, by providing pre-loved donations of essential baby and children items such as clothing and moses baskets. They also accept new items such as nappies and toiletries, as well as products needed for mothers after giving birth. Leanne, the founder of Little Stars recorded a podcast with us and you can find out how they started and about the work they do by listening here: https://apple.co/4o6LXHJ
We have had a very busy time raising money for these two wonderful charities.
For those who liked a bit of dancing and sparkle we had a Strictly Come Dancing sweepstake. In December we held a raffle for a festive hamper, and the sale of turkey baps at lunch time went down very well, this also gave the opportunity for colleagues to get together socially.
As well as raising funds for the charities, staff also donated an abundance of gifts for Little Stars, ‘Santa’s Little Stars’ campaign, the aim of this is to ensure no child wakes up on Christmas morning without something special to unwrap.
We started 2026 collecting items for Severn Valley Rescue and staff have been donating animal food, bedding and lots of other items to help the rescue. On 18 February we took these over to them.
With February being the month of love, we had a “show a colleague you’re appreciated” day, staff could send chocolates to someone they think deserved it. This was very well supported, and whilst showing a colleagues we care, we raised even more funds for the charities.
In the words of Wet Wet Wet “love is all around”!
