Profile / Experience

Profile / Experience

After a successful career in London, Laura has returned to Wales to continue to represent seriously injured clients as part of the award-winning clinical negligence team at Lanyon Bowdler.

Laura, a fluent Welsh speaker, attended Llanfair Caereinion High School before completing her law degree at Aberystwyth University. She then moved to London to complete her post-graduate studies, before being awarded a highly competitive training placement at a leading London law firm. Since qualifying as a solicitor in 2017, Laura has worked on a broad range of clinical negligence claims and has secured significant settlements for her clients.

Laura joined Lanyon Bowdler in September 2020. Whilst she spends the majority of her time working from the Shrewsbury office, Laura also works closely with her colleagues in Conwy. Laura’s native understanding of the Welsh healthcare system is of great benefit to the firm and to her clients. Laura’s caseload consists of claims arising from delays in, or failure to diagnose, refer or treat a range of serious conditions resulting in a significant injury. Laura has a particular interest in brain, spine and birth injury claims, as well as cases arising from the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

Laura is also taking a leading role in the progression of maternity claims arising from the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust to include stillbirths, neonatal deaths, maternal deaths and birth injuries.

The 2024 edition of The Legal 500 ranks Laura as a “Rising Star”. The director states: ‘Associate, Laura Weir, specialises in a variety of high-value and complex cases’.

Testimonial from 2024 edition of The Legal 500:

‘Laura Weir and [colleague] are fantastic, and both have a very bright future. Cases are well prepared and instructions to counsel are clear and detailed. They are collegiate with counsel and supportive of clients. Both are partners of the future’.

After over 30 years of heartache and wanting justice and closure Laura Weir took on our case and won. She has become more than a solicitor I feel I could talk to her more like a caring friend that wanted closure for us and our children. I will never be able to thank her enough.
