Profile / Experience

Neil is a partner and head of the Court of Protection Department. He specialises in Court of Protection work and mental capacity issues affecting both the older client and those who lack the capacity to manage their affairs due to personal injury or clinical negligence.

The team deals with a wide range of Court of Protection matters, including deputyships, the authorisation of gifts, property transactions and wills and contested powers of attorney, as well as an increasing number of health and welfare applications, advising individuals and care providers.

The team is also one of the very few in the region able to advise on the management of personal injury and clinical negligence awards and act as expert witnesses on Court of Protection costs. Neil also has a particular interest in the protection of vulnerable adults against financial abuse and has successfully acted in several complex cases resulting in the removal of deputies and attorneys.

Neil is a member of the Court of Protection Practitioners’ Association, the Professional Deputies Forum and the STEP Mental Capacity Special Interest Group and is a Full Accredited Member of the Association of Lifetime Lawyers, one of the most qualified lawyers in the country supporting older and vulnerable people.

Neil is recognised as a Next Generation Partner in the 2024 edition of The Legal 500 which states: ‘Neil Davies heads the court of protection department. Led by Neil Davies, the deputyship team at Lanyon Bowdler is praised for its ‘strength in depth’ and being ‘a safe pair of hands’. The practice deals with a range of complex property and affairs matters, as well as receiving instructions on welfare cases. The department manages approximately 60 deputyships and trusts with assets in excess of £120m.’
