E-Scooter and Powered Transport Accident Claims.

E-scooters and other powered personal transport devices are becoming an increasingly common sight on our roads and pavements.

While they offer a convenient and eco-friendly way to travel, they also present risks. Because riders are largely unprotected, accidents involving e-scooters or powered transport can lead to serious injuries, for the rider and for pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users.

If you or a loved one has been injured in an accident involving an e-scooter or powered transport device, you may be entitled to claim compensation. At Lanyon Bowdler, our specialist road traffic accident solicitors have the expertise to guide you through the process. We understand the physical, emotional, and financial impact of these accidents, and we are here to secure the compensation and support you need to aid your recovery.

We handle many cases on a no win, no fee basis, meaning there is no financial risk to you if your claim is unsuccessful.

Am I Eligible to Make an E-Scooter or Powered Transport Claim?

You may be entitled to claim compensation if you have been injured while using an e-scooter, e-bike, or another powered transport device, and the accident was caused by someone else’s negligence. This might include a collision with another road user, an accident caused by poorly maintained roads or pavements, or an incident linked to a defective or faulty scooter.

In some cases, the responsible party cannot be identified, such as in a hit-and-run accident, but you may still be able to make a claim through the Motor Insurers’ Bureau, which exists to help victims of uninsured or untraceable drivers.

Eligibility is not limited to riders alone. If you were injured as a pedestrian, cyclist, or another road user in a collision with an e-scooter or powered transport device, you may also have grounds to bring a claim.

Every situation is different, which is why it’s important to seek specialist advice as soon as possible. Our experienced solicitors will assess the details of your accident, explain your options clearly, and guide you on the best route forward to secure the compensation and support you need.

Our E-Scooter and Powered Transport Accident Claim Expertise

At Lanyon Bowdler, we have long been recognised as one of the leading personal injury firms in the country. Our experience extends across all types of road traffic accidents, and in recent years we have developed particular expertise in handling claims involving newer modes of transport, such as e-scooters, e-bikes, and other powered personal vehicles. These cases often present unique legal challenges, from questions of liability to the evolving regulatory framework, and our solicitors are well placed to guide you through every stage of the process with clarity and confidence.

Legal 500

We are consistently ranked in Legal 500, which highlights the strength of our personal injury practice and commends our solicitors for combining specialist legal knowledge with a compassionate, client-first approach.

Chambers UK

Our standing in Chambers UK further reflects our reputation for excellence. The directory notes our ability to manage serious injury claims, praising both our technical skill and our commitment to supporting clients during what is often a very difficult time in their lives.

Specialist Support

We understand that the consequences of an e-scooter or powered transport accident can be life-changing, affecting not only your physical health but also your independence and financial stability. That is why our service goes beyond securing compensation. We work closely with medical professionals and rehabilitation specialists to make sure you have access to the treatment, therapies, and ongoing care you need to aid your recovery and rebuild your life.

With Lanyon Bowdler, you can be assured that your case will be handled by a dedicated team who combine legal excellence with genuine care and understanding.

Your E-Scooter & Powered Transport Claims questions answered

Can I make a claim if I was riding a privately-owned e-scooter?

Yes. Although privately-owned e-scooters are currently illegal to use on public roads, pavements, and cycle lanes in the UK, if you are injured in an accident that was not your fault, you may still be able to bring a compensation claim. The circumstances of each case will determine how liability is assessed.

What if I was hit by someone riding an e-scooter?

If you were injured as a pedestrian, cyclist, or driver in a collision with an e-scooter, you may still be entitled to make a claim against the rider, their insurer (if applicable), or another responsible party, such as a local authority if poor road conditions played a part.

What types of injuries are common in e-scooter accidents?

Accidents often result in broken bones, head injuries, spinal injuries, and soft tissue damage. Even at low speeds, the lack of protection for riders makes them particularly vulnerable. Compensation can help cover treatment, rehabilitation, and any financial losses linked to the accident.

Who pays compensation if the rider was uninsured?

If an accident involves an uninsured or untraceable e-scooter rider, the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) may step in to provide compensation, much like in car accidents involving uninsured drivers.

Is there a time limit to bring a claim?

In most cases, you have three years from the date of the accident, or from the date you became aware of your injuries, to begin a claim. Different rules apply for children and those lacking mental capacity, where the time limit can be extended.

Can I make a No Win No Fee claim?

Yes. Most e-scooter and powered transport claims can be pursued on a No Win No Fee basis, meaning you don’t pay legal fees if your claim is unsuccessful.

I was injured in a terrible accident whilst working on a farm, I was left with extensive injuries to my arm which impacted all aspects of my life including my ability to go back to work. Once I had instructed Lanyon Bowdler they instructed medical experts who were able to recommend rehabilitation for me which was arranged, and this meant that I could go back to work and start living independently again. They secured compensation of £45,000 and gave me all the advice and support I needed to accept the offer made.

M Griffin

After a horrible road traffic accident I was left with minimal physical injuries but a significant psychological injury which affected all aspects of my life including my ability to go back to work.  Lanyon Bowdler handled my claim whilst also securing crucial rehabilitation for me.  They secured £85,000 in compensation for me just after a year after my accident.

Matthew Woodward

After a serious motorbike accident in which my Dad sustained significant head and life changing injuries I instructed Lanyon Bowdler to assist me with making a claim on his behalf. As part of his claim they ensured that he received an appropriate care package to support him in living independently and access to appropriate rehabilitation. They secured for him a settlement of £3.1m together with PPOs for his care and case management for the rest of his life which means that all of his needs can be met.

Rachel Dodwell
Community Case Management Services Ltd

As a case manager I work closely with litigation teams to ensure our clients get the expertise, support and care they need to bring them back to as close to their life pre-injury as possible. This is very often not an easy journey, and balancing the desires of the client to live their best life with collating and presenting the facts of how that life is altered, can be very challenging. Having worked alongside Lanyon Bowdler’s team for many years, I have noted it is always easier to strike this balance, when they are involved.

Shelley Lewis
AJ Case Management

Having worked with a succession of personal injury specialists at Lanyon Bowdler over the years, I have seen at first hand the top-flight legal expertise that they bring to every case and the commitment to obtaining the absolutely best result for every client. Equally importantly, I am struck by the compassion, empathy and humanity with which every client is treated. They go above and beyond to ensure their clients receive the very best representation.

Lanyon Bowdler provide seamless ongoing emotional support, information and guidance to their clients over what may be many years of a PI claim. This significantly helps mitigate the “stress” of a claim for their clients, and in my medicolegal experience puts them way ahead of other legal firms.

Professor Tony Elliott
Director UK Centre for Medico-Legal Studies

Contacted Lanyon Bowdler six months after an injury at work. They offered me several of their services, including no win no fee which I ended up choosing. The solicitor was extremely helpful, was always keeping me updated when there was news and answered promptly when asked for any updates or when I asked any questions. I was very happy with the final settlement and the advice I received proved to be the best for my case. I felt like the extra bit of care was extended to give me a good idea of the options I had to choose from which really helped to inform any decision.
