Partner - Personal Injury Claims Team
Dawn is a partner with Lanyon Bowdler (a Tier One Legal 500 Firm) where she has practised since 1997. She believes in empathy, understanding and commitment and will personally see all clients, providing them with both home and hospital visits where necessary. Dawn will also work closely with the Midland Centre for Spinal Injuries through our Oswestry Office.
Dawn is a member of the Law Society Panel of Personal Injury Solicitors, Senior Litigator with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), a member of Headway (the Brain Injury Association Head Injury Solicitors List) and a member of the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA).
Dawn works predominantly for claimants, including children and those with capacity issues. She specialises in serious and catastrophic brain and spinal accidents arising from RTA and work (involving health and safety liability issues) which result in damages in excess of six figures. Whilst these life altering injuries are devastating; Dawn strongly believes that this should not prevent anyone from perusing their goals. She is passionate about rebuilding confidence and independence.
Dawn also acts in road traffic and occupier’s liability cases as well as industrial disease cases, (eg vibration white finger, asbestosis, industrial asthma).
She also has a number of high profile work related stress cases, including post traumatic stress, and secondary victim claims, ie innocent bystanders.
Dawn has a specialism in military claims, including PTSD and personal injury (particularly back and spinal injuries) that occur both within the UK and during tours of duty overseas. She advises in Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) claims and cold weather injuries (NCFCI), heat illness and amputation cases.
Dawn jointly hosted our national conference, ‘Surviving Spinal Injury – The Journey’ which was held at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital, Gobowen, Oswestry. You can view our spinal injury newsletter here which provides more information about the topics covered at the conference.
Dawn is particularly committed to ensuring that clients not only get the best possible financial result in obtaining early funding for care provision and access to specialist treatment, but she also considers appropriate and accessible housing and adaptations as a priority. She values the need for early rehabilitation, case management and vocational support and feels privileged to work in an experienced Multi Disciplinary Team that takes a holistic approach, with the client’s wishes and needs at the heart of decision making.
Dawn is committed to using mediation as an alternative to trial in dispute resolution and utilises it to avoid the need for stressful protracted expensive litigation.
Dawn is happy to take over cases from other firms or review files where additional specialism is required, the Claimant is dissatisfied or injuries have not yet been fully maximised. She is flexible and approachable and always willing to discuss interesting cases.
In her spare time, she is a runner, raising money for local charities. She also figure skates with her two daughters and enjoys playing the piano and cooking.
The 2019 edition of Chambers UK ranks Dawn as Up and Coming and states: Dawn Humphries focuses on catastrophic injury claims, particularly workplace injuries, as well as cases arising from RTAs and military cases. Sources describe her as "very approachable and very good at running high-value, complicated cases."
The 2019 edition of The Legal 500 recommends Dawn stating she 'is a lawyer clients can trust'.
In April 2017 client Yu Guo said:
“Three years, nine months and eight days ago, I was very unfortunate to be involved in an accident that changed my life completely. I was doomed by the fact that I was to be disabled for life. I was haunted why all this happened to me all of sudden in the safest place with someone, who I trusted and who was supposed to take care of me. I asked myself hundreds and thousands times what I have done to deserve all this!
"But, on the other hand, the injury gives me a chance to see and to experience the very warm, bright and compassionate world. Where ever I go, people offer me help. And very importantly, the injury let me meet a group of wonderful people, each of whom is an elite in their own fields. I am lucky enough and privileged to have these people to work for me or to act on my behalf.
"Dawn is another admirable and experienced lawyer in personal injury claims. She led the team to fight every corner to protect my benefit and to put me at ease. She invited the best experts to provide the evidence reports that leave the defendants with little or no space to argue about. Because of this, the real battle finished before it was actually started - the defendants proposed an offer for Settlement, which is the highest we can have. Well done, Team! Three and a half years hard work has paid off.
“I'd like to thank you again for the wonderful job you and your team have done for me. I am from time to time overwhelmed by how much your job has helped, and will continue to help, me to make the difficult life easier. I sincerely wish all of you well.”
Educational Consultant Dave Askins says:
"Not only did Dawn work tirelessly with my (then) truculent son … and progressed his claim through to success, she has retained a personal interest in his subsequent development. In short, a very good Solicitor and a very decent human being."
