Changing Personal Injury Law Firm & Transferring Personal Injury Claims.

Starting a personal injury claim is not something you will plan for. You need to feel supported, informed, and confident your lawyer is doing everything possible to fight your corner.

Unfortunately, that isn’t always the case. If you’re feeling ignored, rushed, or uncertain about the advice you’ve been given, it may be time to consider whether your current law firm is really the right one to guide you through this process.

At Lanyon Bowdler, we regularly hear from people who are unhappy with the way their personal injury claim is being handled. Some have been left in the dark, waiting weeks for updates. Others feel their lawyer doesn’t understand the complexity of their injuries or seems more interested in a quick settlement than a fair one. Some simply feel like they are a number and not a person.

What you may not realise is that it’s entirely possible to change solicitors part-way through a personal injury claim. Whether you’ve just started the process or are nearing settlement, you are not obliged to stay with a firm you feel no longer meets your needs.

You are entitled to legal representation that gives you confidence, not concern.

If you’re considering looking to change your law firm, we’re here to help. Transferring your claim to Lanyon Bowdler is simpler than you might think, and could make all the difference to your recovery and your results.

Why transfer your claim to Lanyon Bowdler

Many of the clients who come to us part-way through their claims tell us the same thing: they feel like their case wasn’t getting the attention they felt it deserved. They felt there was a lack of communication, they may have been passed from one person to another, or they were concerned their solicitor lacked the experience needed to handle the complexities of their claim for compensation.

Why choose us

Clients often come to us because they realise their injury claim requires experienced lawyers, particularly in complex areas such as brain injury, spinal damage, amputations, or where rehabilitation and long-term support must be factored into the outcome. Others are frustrated with inconsistent communication, or feel they are being pushed toward a settlement they are uncomfortable with.

By transferring your claim to Lanyon Bowdler, you are choosing a firm that listens, explains things clearly, and leads with expertise. We take the time to understand your situation properly, offering clear advice and regular updates, so that you feel confident in the direction your case is heading. You are never just a file on a desk. We are part of your team, and we’re here to make sure you receive the outcome and the support you rightly deserve.

Debbie Humphries is recommended for her representation of clients who have sustained life-changing injuries. Phillip Roberts is also noted, and has particular experience in areas such as accident at work cases and loss of limbs claims. Karen Clarke is another notable member of the practice’.

Represented claimant via their litigation friend in a PI claim against a defendant driver, successfully negotiating a settlement of £2.9m ahead of a liability trial.

Chambers UK 2025 ranks the department in Band 1 in the Midlands and states ‘Lanyon Bowdler Solicitors is a leading Shropshire firm advising on an extensive breadth of personal injury cases, including high-value RTA and accident-at-work claims. The firm is particularly experienced in acting for clients with spinal and cerebral injuries. The team is skilled in handling military cases and accidents abroad. Your Injury Claim Transfer questions answered

Can I change solicitors during a personal injury claim?

Yes, you can. You have the right to choose who represents you at any point during your personal injury claim. If your current law firm is not providing the service, support, or expertise you expect, you are free to instruct a new firm, whether your case has just begun or is well underway. Many people are surprised to learn just how straightforward the process can be, and that making the switch does not mean starting over from scratch.

Why would someone want to change their injury solicitor?

There are many reasons why clients choose to move their claim to Lanyon Bowdler. Often, it comes down to feeling let down or unsure about the direction of the claim. You might be experiencing long delays, poor communication, or lack of clarity about next steps. In some cases, clients come to us because they’ve lost confidence in the legal advice being given, or feel they are being encouraged to settle too soon or for too little.

Others have discovered their case is more complex than originally thought, and feel their current solicitor lacks the specialist knowledge needed to secure the right outcome. Whatever the reason, your instincts are valid. If you’re not happy with your representation, it’s worth seeking a second opinion.

Will changing solicitors delay my injury claim?

In most cases, transferring your claim causes very little delay. At Lanyon Bowdler, we take care of all the communication with your previous solicitor, requesting your case file and ensuring a seamless handover. Our experienced team knows how to move quickly, assess the work already done, and pick up the momentum. The aim is always to reduce stress, and ultimately to get your case back on track and progressing with purpose.

How do I transfer my personal injury claim to Lanyon Bowdler?

Transferring your claim is easier than you might think. Once you contact us, we’ll talk through your concerns and offer an honest view about whether switching is the right decision for you. If you decide to go ahead, we’ll manage the transition from your current law firm. This includes writing to them on your behalf, arranging for the transfer of your file, and handling any discussions around costs or outstanding work. You won’t need to deal with them directly: we’ll take care of everything.

Will I have to pay to switch solicitors?

This depends on the agreement you have with your current solicitor, but in most cases, switching can be done with little or no financial impact to you. If you’re on a no win, no fee arrangement, your previous solicitor may be entitled to some costs for the work they’ve already done, but this is often handled between firms and deducted from your final settlement. We’ll give you clear, upfront guidance on how this works and make sure there are no surprises.

What makes Lanyon Bowdler different?

Clients who move their claims to us often say the difference is immediate and reassuring. We listen. We communicate clearly. And we treat you like the individual you are, not just a case number.

Our team includes specialists with nationally recognised expertise in serious injury and complex claims, including those involving spinal injuries, brain trauma, amputations, and long-term care needs. We are ranked by Legal 500 and Chambers UK for the quality of our legal advice, but what really sets us apart is our client care. We walk every step of the journey with you, offering honest advice, robust representation, and a genuinely supportive service from start to finish.

Testimonials

What our clients say.

I was injured in a terrible accident whilst working on a farm, I was left with extensive injuries to my arm which impacted all aspects of my life including my ability to go back to work. Once I had instructed Lanyon Bowdler they instructed medical experts who were able to recommend rehabilitation for me which was arranged, and this meant that I could go back to work and start living independently again. They secured compensation of £45,000 and gave me all the advice and support I needed to accept the offer made.

M Griffin
Birmingham

After a horrible road traffic accident I was left with minimal physical injuries but a significant psychological injury which affected all aspects of my life including my ability to go back to work.  Lanyon Bowdler handled my claim whilst also securing crucial rehabilitation for me.  They secured £85,000 in compensation for me just after a year after my accident.

Matthew Woodward
Bristol

After a serious motorbike accident in which my Dad sustained significant head and life changing injuries I instructed Lanyon Bowdler to assist me with making a claim on his behalf. As part of his claim they ensured that he received an appropriate care package to support him in living independently and access to appropriate rehabilitation. They secured for him a settlement of £3.1m together with PPOs for his care and case management for the rest of his life which means that all of his needs can be met.

They understand the clients they represent and work tirelessly to achieve the best they can for them. Rachel Dodwell
Community Case Management Services Ltd

As a case manager I work closely with litigation teams to ensure our clients get the expertise, support and care they need to bring them back to as close to their life pre-injury as possible. This is very often not an easy journey, and balancing the desires of the client to live their best life with collating and presenting the facts of how that life is altered, can be very challenging. Having worked alongside Lanyon Bowdler’s team for many years, I have noted it is always easier to strike this balance, when they are involved.

Shelley Lewis

Lanyon Bowdler provide seamless ongoing emotional support, information and guidance to their clients over what may be many years of a PI claim. This significantly helps mitigate the “stress” of a claim for their clients, and in my medicolegal experience puts them way ahead of other legal firms.

Professor Tony Elliott

Contacted Lanyon Bowdler six months after an injury at work. They offered me several of their services, including no win no fee which I ended up choosing. The solicitor was extremely helpful, was always keeping me updated when there was news and answered promptly when asked for any updates or when I asked any questions. I was very happy with the final settlement and the advice I received proved to be the best for my case. I felt like the extra bit of care was extended to give me a good idea of the options I had to choose from which really helped to inform any decision.
